The 2015 season is Ray Black Jr.'s first full year in one of NASCAR’s national touring series while driving the No. 07 ScubaLife.com Chevrolet for SS Green Light Racing. He opened up the season with a bang, scoring a 5th place finish at Daytona International Speedway! Since then he has gone on to score five Top-15 finishes and is in a good position to place in the Top-10 of the championship standings at the end of the year.
Black grew up in Florida after relocating from Montgomery, Alabama at age 9. It was here that he fell in love with deep sea diving after a couple of scuba trips with his father. His passion for motorsports came later at age 14 after playing racing video games and feeling the need for speed!
Black started out racing in the Florida Mini Cup Racing Association where he secured the championship for the FMCRA Junior All Star at age 14, along with the 2006 Rookie of the Year title in that division. In 2013, he moved up to racing pro late models and then into the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) in 2014. During that year, he got his first taste of true NASCAR racing when he competed in seven races for SS Green Light Racing.
The team worked well together and owner, Bobby Dotter, was impressed by what he saw and invited Black to drive full-time for his team in 2015. Team Scuba appreciates the continuing support from NASE Worldwide, ScubaLife, CDA Technical Institute and Pit Stop Destinations in their sponsorship of Ray Black Jr. Team Scuba is proud to have a fellow deep-sea diver like Ray Black Jr. serve as a spokesperson for the sport and help bring the world of scuba diving to race fans across the country.
