Underwater Salvage of Spanish Galleons
After lying dormant at the bottom of the ocean for more than 400 years, divers were able to salvage 4 bronze cannons from the wreckage of Spanish galleons off the coast of Ireland.
The ornate bronze cannons – with one depicting a bearded St. Peter, holding keys to heaven - will be transferred to the National Museum of Ireland. Expert commercial divers were called in once locals had recovered timbers that had washed ashore during violent storms in the region.
